Today is International Day of Persons With Disabilities (IDPWD), celebrating and supporting all with a disability to have an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID world.
The purpose of the campaign is to promote the rights and wellbeing of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development. To raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic and cultural life.
According to The National Office for Statistics, the higher proportion of disabled employees have been made redundant than employees who are not disabled during this pandemic. More worryingly, among people who indicated Coronavirus affected their wellbeing, disabled people more frequently than non-disabled people by 17%.
- 25% of people with disabilities felt like they are a burden on people compared to 10% of non-disabled people
- 67% of people with disabilities are feeling stressed and anxious compared to 54% of non-disabled people
- 49% of people with disabilities are feeling lonely compared to 37% of non-disabled people
Hands Free Computing believe that this day is a great opportunity for us all to take action towards making the world a more inclusive space for everyone.
As champions of supporting, challenging barriers and providing solutions to people with disabilities and neurodiversity’s, they are incredibly passionate to fight for equality especially within the workplace.
